 despite the atrocious conditions. The road looks like glass in parts and is covered in paint 

white lines and riders’ names painted on by fans – which are serving to make it even more slippery.

Mathieu van der Poel remains the clubhouse leader. With 123 riders still due to set off

the Dutchman remains in the lead and his time of 15min 30sec will take some beating

and five of them are under 23 years of age and very inexperienced.
